Creating a procurement system

Having over one million members and 100 branches, a building society wanted to control spending at branch level, so we created a procurement system that would allow branch members to request spending without knowing anything about accountancy.

Requisitions would then be electronically authorised by the appropriate manager.  The process involved an electronic review of previous expenditures and allocated budgets.

The advantage was that senior management became familiar with proposed spending levels early and that errors were reduced and accuracy increased.
